Maleyali Jotheyali - Revised

One of my friends Supreet in Twitter tweeted me regarding the second song of Shreya in "Maleyali Jotheyali".Supreet told me that Shreya also had one more song in Maleyali Jotheyali.Well, thanks to him, otherwise I would never have been able to hear the song.As far as the songs of other languages(except Hindi) are concerned , I just hear the songs by Shreya and I don't know why Shreya was not credited for her second song in Maleyali Jotheyali.Anyways, lets come to the song.

The song is titled "Yenu Helabeku".Its a duet sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Niigaam. It runs for 5 minutes.Music is composed by V.Harikrishna.Its a romantic track. Before telling anything else , let me tell you the mukhda of the song is highly inspired from "Teri Ore" from Singh is King.Even the instrument is same here and the beats are almost similar.Except the beats, the main content of the song is different. Its a romantic track.Sonu Nigam has given good company to Shreya .Shreya has overshadowed the male singer in the whole song. The antaras of the songs are beautiful and the interlude before the second stanza is great , specially the chorus part singing "Ole Ole Ole Na Re Na Re".The starting lines of the antaras are slightly high pitched and note for the small alaaps Shreya sings in the second stanza.

Overall, a great song which we would have missed. Thanks to Supreet once again.

Balance music and education :Shreya Ghoshal

At an age when most of the youngsters step into phase of their career , Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal has almost everything - fame, money and success but the artist says she doesn't want the young breed of music aspirants to follow in her footsteps.

Says the bubbly singer who was in Jaipur to audition contestants for a music reality show, “A lot of budding singers who came for the auditions today were hardly 18 to 20 year olds. Though I started very early, I wouldn’t like them to follow my example. It is not the time to get into music but learn as much as one can and complete one’s education because one’s grasping power is at its peak. One must make the most of it, instead of getting commercial mileage out of music.” And though she has learnt her music really well, she agrees that she did miss out on all the college fun. “I did miss the fun that college life has in store for youngsters, but I didn’t compromise on my academics.” And for being able to strike the right balance between her education and music she gives all the credit to her family.

She feels that every parent must know where to stop the child. “I managed to pull it off and complete my graduation because my family is very well educated, so that inclination was always there. And my family always supported me and took the right decisions on my behalf as I was too young to do so. However in many families, once the child gets into music, the whole focus shifts to just that. These days parents have a lot of expectations from their children, they think once their ward has stepped into the music industry he must become a superstar. Parents must know where to draw the line and in case one’s family isn’t that supporting one must use one’s own discretion,” stresses Shreya.

However, she isn’t against reality shows. “The whole format of reality shows is amazing. It offers a different kind of entertainment, has enormous reach and audience involvement. Earlier aspiring singers would long for a single break to get a foothold in the music industry but today courtesy these shows, a lot of newcomers are getting popularity and work. Also, the financial pressure is off them. But only those who are focussed prove to be winners,” says the crooner, who was born in Rawatbhata near Kota and spent 13 years of her life in the state. Needless to say, her every visit to Rajasthan leaves her nostalgic. “I have spent my childhood here and have this big connect with Rajasthan. I have learnt music here and love coming back to this place again and again. The weather of this place is so distinct that the moment you enter the state you know you are here. And the smell of its soil leaves me nostalgic,” shares Shreya.

She adds the desert state has lots of talent. “The internal buzz in this reality show is that the best of talent comes from Rajasthan because music is in the blood of the people here. And the talent is unique because everybody is so grounded.”

Not many know that apart from music it’s cooking that helps to de-stress her. “I love to travel and read books but it’s cooking that has a healing effect on me. Whenever I am not well I cook something nice and the aroma of the food works wonders for me,” signs off Shreya.

Suryakanthi

Recently,Shreya was asked about her song in Suryakanthi and she said that she has never sung something like this before.Since that day , I have been eagerly waiting for the music release of Suryakanthi. It seems Suryakanthi is the most awaited Kannada movie this year. So,there are greater chances of Shreya's songs getting their due.Music is composed by Ilayaraja.I always expect a lot from Shreya - Ilayaraja combo.Lets come to the songs.

The first track I am going to talk about is Edeya Bagilu(the one which Shreya was talking about in that interview). Its sung by Shreya and Kunal Ganjawala. It runs for 5 and a half minutes. When Shreya has said that she never sang something like this before, then who am I to say anything about this track but just to give you the clue, let me tell you that this track could be a mixture of jazz , karnatic music , etc.Its one of the most beautiful and complicated songs of Shreya - Ilayaraja combo.Shreya is , as usual angelic in the track.Shreya and Kunal are the perfect choices for this track.Ilayaraja has used beautiful instruments like Piano, saxaphone, etc. The harmony in between the antaras by Shreya is the most appealing part of the song.Evereything about this song is beautiful.I don't think I can say anything else about this track.Hats off to Ilayaraja and Shreya !!

Next track is a solo titled "Chan Chanare".It runs for 4 and a half minutes.Remember the tamil song Kuyil Padum sung by Shreya? This song falls in the same category. This track also has kids singing in between.Shreya is sounding very cute in this song.Raja has used saxaphone in most of the part of the song. There's a strange tune played on saxaphone which comes many times in the song. The antaras of the song are great.Shreya has a beautoful harmony before the second stanzaNote the beautful change in the notes after that harmony.

Again , a treat to Shreya fans !!

Hope the songs get their due.

Shreya performs at India Gate

Many celebrities came together to give tribute to all the soldiers who lost their life in Mumbai blast last year.Shreya performed a bangla song there. Its a lovely emotional track. Many celebrities like Shahrukh Khan , Javed Akhtar , Shankar Mahadevan ,etc were present.

Here is the video of Shreya’s performance:

Shreya in "Music Ka Mahamuqabla"

Finally, after a little lul of 15 days,I am here wih the deluge of posts(Yes,3 more are yet to be written). The reason of not posting is not accurate. There are many reasons.Instead of getting into that , lets come to the main point i.e. our Nightingale Shreya is going to be a judge again in a upcoming reality show “Music Ka Mahamuqabla”.There are 6 captains in the show including Shreya.Other captains include Shaan , Shankar Mahadevan , Mika , Himesh Reshammiya and Mohit Chauhan. Some sources say that the captains have alrerady made their teams by selecting known participants of various reality show but Shreya was recently in Jaipur for the audition and she tweeted that she got an outstanding voice.

Well,as one of her biggest fans,I always pray for Shreya and I pray that let everything go smooth in this reality show.

Wishing Shreya all the very best :)

Shuruvagide - Maleyalli Jotheyalli

Finally, it’s the time to write about that pending Kannada song which I was talking in the previous post. The song is titled “Shuruvagide” from the movie “Maleyalli Jotheyalli”. Is sung by Shreya and Shaan.Music is composed by V.Harikrishna.

Well, the track runs for 4 minutes 20 seconds. Its a romantic song but it has a feel of little naughtiness too(guessing from the tune, not lyrics). You may guess that the song could be a peppy one after hearing the guitar piece in the starting.Shreya sings after the first line by Shaan. The song is a usual romantic number. The composer has used instruments like saxaphone, guitars, etc.Shreya gets to sing the last lines of each antara. The song also has a humming by a chorus singer which is quite impressive.Mostly, the lines are sung by the male singer but Shreya's lines are as always, delight to hear. I don't have much to say about the song as Shreya doesn't have much to sing(don't compare with Shukraan Allah , Soniyo, etc)

Anuraga Vilochananayi - Neelathamara(Malayalam)

Finally, Shreya’s 5th Malayalam song releases. Her Malayalam songs have been mindblowing.I would have posted about this song 3 days ago but didn’t get much time as I am preparing a very special thing for a very special person(will let you know aftee I complete it)..ahh,most of you must be knowing what I am talking about.Anywayz, let me come back to the song.

As the title of the post suggests, the song is titled “Anuraga Vilochananayi” from the movie “Neelathamara”.Its sung by Shreya and P.Sreekumar.It has music by Vidyasagar.Shreya’s previous association with Vdyasagar(Tamil and Hindi) have been great. I am glad that Shreya has sung for him in Malayalam too.The song runs for 4 minutes 35 seconds. Its a melody. The track starts with a lovely tune played on flute. The male singer starts with the song.Shreya comes later in the mukhda singing in her honey - soaked voice. The lines which Shreya sings in the mukhda are outstanding as the notes changes after the male lines(hope you got it).Somehow,I felt the background was similar to that of Rafta Rafta from Hulchul, though it also had music by Vidyasagar but Anuraga Vilochananyi has completely different to offer otherwise. In one of the music reviews,I read that Shreya has pronounced the words even better than the malayalam singers.Well, its not a hard thing for Versatile Shreya. The antaras of the song are beautifully made, with beautiful instruments giving company to it.There's a beautiful humming by Shreya before the second stanza starts.Don't miss it.Its very impressive and I need to say anything about Shreya's singing here after because I don't think I am capable of doing that.Still,I have only one word to say: "Shreya is the best and very versatile".

I am sure you all are going to love this song.

ps:One Kannada song is also lined up.Will post it soon.

Zoobi Doobi - Three Idiots

Here comes the most awaited song of Shreya of 2009.Since last year,I have been eagerly waiting for this song. Its directed by Rajkumar Hirani(the one who directed Munnabhai Series) and produced by Vidhu Vinod Copra(Parineeta,Munnabhai Series).Shreya has had great songs with the previous movies of these directors.Be it Munnabhai MBBS or Parineeta or Lage Raho Munnabhai, all songs are counted as one of the best hindi songs of Shreya.

When Shantanu Moitra is the composer, then its obvious that Shreya is going to have a song(s) in that movie.Since its more of a male oriented film,so we could not expect more than one female song.It has already created a buzz among the bollywood freaks as a "rain song".Its again sung by Shreya and Sonu.Last year,we didnt see much of Shreya - Sonu duets but we got to hear many duets by them on later half of this year. The song comes from the same team of Shantanu - Swanand - Shreya.

This track has everything in it,from romance to naughtiness, etc.Shreya starts with the song singing "Gungunati Hain Ye Hawayein..........Aalam".After the slow motion lines, the singers starts with Zoobi Doobi having a touch of oldies. You may remember "Ye Nigahein"(not sung by Shreya) from Khoya Khoya Chand after hearing the track. Its a full on rain song.Versatile Shreya has again spread her magic in the song. The song has background like songs of 60s.It has a feel of OP Nayyar compositions.Shreya has modulated her voice amazingly in the song.I liked the way she sang Zoobi Doobi in different styles. It has some funny lyrics in between like "pagal stupid man".I am sure the song will be promoted well and its expected to be aierd this Saturday. The stanzas of the song are perfectly made according to the theme.

My verdict - One of the best songs of Shreya in 2009.

Aaramaghe - Gokula

I wrote in the previous post that I would write about Aramaghe the next day but sadly,I was so pressurised by exams that if I had written about the song that day,it would have been a very short review and I didnt want that with such a lovely track.Lets come to the track.

The song is titled "Aramaghe" which is from the Kannada movie "Gokula".Its sung by Shreya and Sonu.Music is composed by Mano Murthy.Shreya has had many beautiful Kannada songs this year and Aramaghe is definitely one of them. The song is of 5 minutes aproximately. Its a beautoful romantic track. It has Mano Murthy touch but still very unique. The song starts with a beautiful tune played on Gitar(seems to be the favorite of Mano Murthy).Shreya starts the song with her soothing vocals after a little sargam by chorus. The track has amazing notes in it.the song is a usual romantic number but still, very unique and refreshing.Sonu Nigam has done a good job too.It seems Mano Murthy is a big fan of Shreya - Sonu duets. The percussions are amazing. The antaras are rocking. Its one of the best romantic songs I have heard in recent times. The song has an amazing feel to it.Mano Murthy has used Santoor,Gitar, etc. The santoor played between the last stanza sounds amazing.

I am completely addicted to the song. This song can surely be added in the "Best Kannada songs of Shreya".
