Today's music lacks melody!!!!!!

Shreya recently gave an interview. Here it is:

You are performing live in the city today. How comfortable are you with stage shows?
I love it. It’s a great way to reach out to the audience. It’s a different high altogether.

India is celebrating Rahman’s win and hoping for an Oscar. What does this recognition mean for the Indian music industry?
Rahman Sir deserved this recognition a long time ago. He has managed to take India to a different level. It’s time to celebrate, for sure. But now that the world is looking at us, we need to be careful in what we do.

Are you referring to plagiarism in the Indian music industry?
Yes. Composers need to realise that we are in the spotlight now. There is no escaping if they pass off someone else’s music as their own. But more than that, I think it’s time we started promoting Indian classical and folk music, which is dying due to lack of proper exposure. Since Bollywood is such a great global platform, we need to promote what’s our own, rather than do something which is borrowed. And honestly, not all composers are cut out to do Western music.

So you think Indian composers can’t pull off Western music?
Some of them are great, but some are trying too hard. One cannot deny that the music these ‘wannabes’
compose, go on to become a hit. Composers need to stick to music they are good at, instead of jumping on the bandwagon. Music today lacks melody.

Going back to Rahman, you’ve sung for many of his projects. Do you wish you were part of Slumdog Millionaire too?
Like every singer, I wish I was part of the project. But I don’t feel bad about missing out, because every singer that Rahman Sir has worked with in the film, has done a great job. I’m an audience first and then a singer. So, I’m happy for everyone who has been a part of this project. Rahman Sir is absolutely original and unique.

You’ve also sung for composers who are serial offenders in plagiarism. Aren’t you apprehensive before recording with them?
Inside the recording studio, a singer is only concerned about the song. There is no time to think about plagiarism.

Antaheen

Shreya has sung in so many Bengali Movies and she has released 100s of Bengali albums too.She has had so many releases in the starting of 2009 and one of them includes "Antaheen" which is a big bidget Bengali Movie. It is directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhary. And guess wat, this movie has music by Shantanu Moitra.Remember the songs of Parineeta??If not, then the songs of this movie will recollect the memories of Parineeta when "Piyu Bole" became a chartbuster and was played in every FM Station continuously after every hour.Well,Shreya has 3 songs in this movie and when Shantanu Moitra is the composer, then the songs will definitely be unique and melodious.

Lets talk about Shreya first song which is a solo titled "Shokol Ashe Na".This song starts with a soulful tune played on Guitar which is a common instrument in Moitra's compostions. This song runs for 3 minutes 20 seconds and beleive me,this song is a big treat for all the fans.I dnt knw how to explain this song. This song reminds me of a theme sung by Hamsika Iyer in Eklavya. This song really touched my heart.I dnt knw wat to write abt dis song.Truly melodious!!!!!

Now comes the second song which is a duet with Pranab Biswas but we can call it a solo bcoz only some alaaps are sung by Pranab, and rest of the song is sung by Shreya. The song is titled "Jao Pakhi" and the speciality of the song is that it doesnt have any antara but still,it runs for 5 minutes 13 seconds. Its a very slow song and wat to say abt Shreya, she is really blessed and i am really blessed that i am getting to hear songs of every language sung by Shreya. This song reminds me of "Sakhi Piya".this sonsg is very simple to hear but when u sing,u definitely cant sing it the way Shreya does.I dnt think there is any other singer who can put the emotions the way Shreya puts.Must hear song!!!!!!!!!!

Now,the turn for third song which is again a duet with Babul Supriyo titled "Pherari Mon".Its quite a long song which runs for 6 minutes 38 seconds.Shreya starts singing at 1:10.And this again is a Shreya song as Babul Supriyo comes in last just to sing 2-3 lines. This song is best in its own way.It cant be compared with any other song but still, its a typical Moitra's composition.its always a treat to hear songs from this immortal combo of Shreya-Shantanu.I got very emotional after hearing dis song.I dnt understand the language but the singing of Shreya made me emotional.

ps:I have just these songs of this movie and beleive me,all the 3 songs are masterpeices.Plz dnt go to the language.Music has no barrier of language.I request every Shreya fan to hear these songs and tell me ur review.

Jaaji Malligee

Here comes Shreya's another Kannada song "Olave" from the movie "Jaaji Mallige".Its a duet between Shreya and Karthik. Its composed by Sadhu Kokila(seems new to me).Its a super meody supported by instruments like Tabla, etc. This song reminds me of some Bollywood songs made in 90s.Karthik has given ample support to Shreya in this song.Shreya is as usual marvellous in the song. This song also has another version titled" sung by the same singers, same tune but words r exchanged. So if we talk abt "Olave" or " Cheluve Brahmmana Bali ",it means the same.

ps:I am very happy the way our Shreya is going in 2009 *touchwood*....Hope she sings number of songs in every language in the coming months as well.

Shreya Ghoshal embarrassed to judge reality shows

25-year-old Shreya Ghoshal, who last year sang songs in smash hits 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', 'Ghajini' and 'Dostana', says that she's still too inexperienced to judge reality shows, saying that most of the participants are a little too close to her age.

She told HT CafĂ©, "It's very embarrassing to judge people who are older than you. Most contestants on these shows are either a year of two younger or older than me. I need to become more mature as a singer. I’m too young to judge I guess. ‘Chotte Ustaad’ was with children. I love kids. I accepted because kids are not fussy.”

Bhor Bhayi - Delhi 6

I am here with the review of the song which i mentioned in the last post. Before reviewing this song,I would like to speak my heart out.I am so lucky that I am a fan of that person who doesnt have any atitude, who has so much respect for her elders, who is humble, who can sing any type of songs with ease.....and its none other than GODDESS SHREYA GHOSHAL.I feel so happy when people say that "U r the biggest fan of Shreya".......that really gives me a lot of happiness.

Anywayz, lets discuss about the song now.I wrote that "Bhor Bhayi" is sung by Shreya,Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan and Gujri Todi....Actally Gujri Todi is an Indian Raag and many songs r made on the basis of this raag and this is usually sung at morning. This song is a fully classical song and Shreya is the first and the only choice for classical songs. The song starts with Ustad's voice rendering Bhor Bhayi and then Shreya takes the song to the another level with her flawless alaaps and harkats.Note the way how she sings the alaap between 2:09-2:15.She is really outstanding and I am happy that Rahman chose her for this song.Hope AR Rahman-Shreya combo will rock again in the coming movies.

Shreya back in Malayalam!!!!!!!!!

Vidaparayukayano still tops my "Favourite songs" list. And Shreya is back in Malayalam with two songs in Banaras.Music is composed by M.Jayachanderan.I am not aware with Malayalam songs at all.The first malayalam song i heard was Shreya's "Vidaparayukayano".Let me try to write review of a Malayalam song also.

Let me start with her duet song with Sandeep Kumar(who very much sounds like KJ Yesudas) titled "Madhuram Gayathi".Now,To be frank, this is the kind of song which should always go to Shreya because she is the only singer who can sing these type of songs with ease. This is the utter classical song which i wait for Shreya to sing.In the starting,Shreya sings sum Hindi lines which again has a classical touch.Instruments like Mridangam, flute, etc are used in this song and M.Jayachanderan seems to be a very talented musician because the way he has composed this song is really outstanding. As far as I could understand, this song is dedicated to Lord Krishna and it became my favourite in the first hearing itsellf.I am not able to write much about this song. The song itself has so much variations which i am unable to express.Sandeep Kumar has given ample support to Shreya. The way Shreya sings classical song....ufffff.she really rocks.I am proud to be her fan.
Kudos to Shreya !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now,lets come to the second song "Chanthu Thotille" which is a solo and this song is completely different as compared to the first one. This song again has some Hindi lines but this time, its rendered by chorus. This song seems to be a folish type of a song and the instruments used are quiet similar to the ones used in Avarapam Poovukum.I dnt knw if everyone agrees to this but thats wat i felt after 5-6 hearings.Beleive me,I found Tamil language quiet easier as compared to Malayalam, though both the language sounds quite similar and i dnt knw how Shreya renders these songs. She is really a rockstar.I feel that she should get an award for these songs. She really deserves.Good work by M.Jayachanderan , awesome singing by Nightingale Shreya and good support from Sandeep Kumar.

ps:Delhi 6 Audio will release soon and I have a lot of expectations from the song which she has rendered in Delhi6.The song is "Bhor Bhayi" sung by Shreya and Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan .

Vaade Vaade - Drona(Telugu)

Thank God,we r getting to hear Shreya again in Telugu after Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam. She is back in the Telugu Movie Drona after singing two great numbers in Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam. She has sung a solo in Drona titled "Vaade Vaade" composed by Anoop Rubens for whom Shreya also sang Enni Ashalo(still continues to be my favourite)I am quiet late in reviewing this song because i was not able to feel which type of song it is.Lets see wat Shreya has done in this song after the melodious Enni Ashalo.

Well,in the starting of the song,we get to hear some Hindi lines by Shilpa Rao(not sure) which are quite unique. The song runs for 4 minutes 22 seconds. This is a peppy kind of a song and Shreya shows her versitality again with this song. This song looks easy but it become difficult when u sing it.Instruments are used perfectly in this song and Shrey's angelic voice adds life to this song.

Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam

I expected atleast one song of Shreya in Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam(Telugu Movie) but Shreya has two songs in this movie :).Both are duets, one with Shankar Mahadevan and other one with Sonu Nigam.Lets talk abt the first song"Aanandama"(Shreya abd Shankar).

After melodious, fresh hit and superhit track "Tere Naina",Shreya is back with the musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy in the telugu movie Koncham Ishtam Koncham Kashtam.First track "Aanandama" is melodious to the core.I could feel that it has a little touch of classical music....little means little reflection of classical music.Shreya enters in the song with first antara which is made beautifully by S-E-L.The harkats and murkiyan which Shreya takes in small small places,i bet if any other singer can do it.This song runs for 5 minutes 40 seconds.

Lets come to the second song "Antha Siddanga" sung by Shreya and Sonu Nigam. This song is one-on-one/ched-chad song between the couples.Sonu Nigam has given good company to Shreya. The interesting thing in this song is that Shreya spekas some telugu lines in the first antara and beleive me,it feels as if a south indian lady is speaking. She really rocks.Kudos to Shreya!!!!!!!

Both the songs are awesome and both have become my favourites.Enjoy these songs!!!!!!!!

42 Kms - Music Out Now

Not many people would be knowing that 42 Kms was first titled "Marathon".It stars 42 Kms starring Mandira Bedi, Sameer Dattani, Purab Kohli, Bikram Saluja, Prashant Chainani, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Nauheed Cyrusi, Mahima Mehta, Gautam Kapoor.Music is composed by Parik and Tubby(seems new to me).Why I am posting all this??Ofcourse bcoz Shreya has sung in it.Shreya has sung a duet with Udit Narayan titled "Aate Jaate".And I am yet to hear to this song.

Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye

No,its not the song from the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge........Its the latest movie starring Raima Sen, Randeep Hooda and Arbaaz Khan that will hit the screens on 6th February 2009.And guess what?Shreya has a song in it,that too a solo composed by Lalit Pandit of Jatin-Lalit duo.Shreya has not worked much with Lalit Pandit. Her last songs with him were Meri Ibtada and Kash Ik Din Aisa Bhi Aaye from Showbiz.Well, lets discuss abt the song of Shreya......The song is titled "Pehle Meri In Aankhon" and as i said earlier, its a solo and i am very excited abt this song because Jatin-Lalit always create deadly melodious songs and hope Lalit alone will do the same.Lets wait for the music release !!!!!!!

Note:Shreya has also forLalit Pandit in Dulha Mil Gaya

Hoovina-Birugaali

Again,it was Kiran Raj who informed me about this song.Starting with a beautiful alaap by Shreya, this song will take you to some other world. Its a solo and when its a solo of Shreya, then its obvious that its going to be my favourite.Music of "Hoovinai" is given by Arjun. The song lasts till 4 minutes 49 seconds. All the instruments have been used perfectly in thus song and I am just loving the alaap which Shreya sings 4-5 times in this song. Its an awesome romantic song.I wish I could understand Kannada, then I wud have explained the song much better than this.Beleive me,for a Delhiite,it is very difficult to understand any South Indian Language unless he has some south indian friends.

ps.I shud take the help of Kiran who also gave me the meaning of Usiraguve Hasiraguve.

Preethi Maadiro-Kabbaddi

We all knw that Shreya is flooded with offers from Bollywood but not only that, she is also getting a lot of offers from Kannada Music Directors and hope that continues, specially songs with Mano Murthy,Gurukiran and Hamsalekha.Anywayz, lets talk about her new Kannada song "Preethi Maadiro" having music by Hamsalekha and sung by Shreya and Kunal Ganjawala. When u hear the mukhra of the song,u'll feel its a typical Hamsalekha number but the track gets interesting when u get to hear some Arabic flavour before the antaras. That makes the song more intersting and Shreya is as usual mesmerises the listener with her outstanding vocals and Kunal gives Shreya a good company.

ps: Thanks a lot to Kiran for informing me abt Shreya's 2 recent kannada releases :

Shreya sings in Naan Kadavul

Finally,Shreya is returning back with Ilayaraja in Tamil after Yarum Thodatha Ondrai(i hope my spelling is correct).I always get excited when i get to hear a new song from Shreya-IR combination. This combo is very very close to my heart bcoz the first Tamil song which i heard of Shreya was Khajuraho from Oru Naal Oru Kanavu and this combo became my favourite.Anywayz, lets come to the point.

Well,Shreya has sung a song in an upcoming movie Naan Kadavul. The song is titled" Kannil Paravai" and the best thing about the song is that its a solo and composed by Ilayaraja. The music is out but I have not heard the song yet.But i knw its gonna be a soothing melody like all songs of Shreya-IR combo. Now,lets wait for the song...............
